8 Fun Family Weekend Activities in the Atlanta Area

#1: Stone Mountain National Park
COMMENTS: Stone Mountain is the world’s largest granite rock. It also has a carving of General Lee on his horse on it. You can sit in the grass and watch an amazing laser light show. There are fun activities for the kids like Sky High, a ropes course with 3 different levels. There is a rock climbing wall and mini ropes course for youngsters. There is also a Sky lift that moves you up to the top of Stone Mountain. You can either do this or hike up Stone Mountain. For more information, go to www.stonemountainpark.com.
#2: The Atlanta Zoo
COMMENTS: The Atlanta Zoo has an amazing variety of animals- from Pandas in China to llamas in South America and everything in between. There is a petting zoo for little kids with goats and donkeys. Famous for their pandas, the Atlanta Zoo is great for families that love animals. For more information, go to www.zooatlanta.org
#3: Webb Bridge Park
COMMENTS: Webb Bridge Park offers sports fields for softball, baseball, football, and soccer. It also has swings and a huge playground. There are sandboxes for kids to play in that are separated from the swings by a mini stream. There is also access to the Greenway, a path through the woods for joggers, runners, walkers, bikers, scooters, etc.
LOCATION: On Old Milton Parkway take North Point Parkway to Webb Bridge Road. At the intersection of Webb Bridge Way and Webb Bridge Road, turn left onto Webb Bridge Road. Park entrance is on left.
#4: The Georgia Aquarium
COMMENTS: The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s biggest aquarium. It has freshwater fish, otters, seals, saltwater fish, whales, and their newest attraction coming soon- SHARKS! The GA Aquarium will also soon reopen the penguin exhibit. You are able to go to a touch tank there with sting rays and sharks. They won’t hurt you, though. #5: Artrageous Potter
COMMENTS: Artrageous is a ceramics studio where you can paint your own potter. They have a wide variety of figures, plates, bowls, and more for you to paint. #6: Suwannee Town Center Park
COMMENTS: Suwannee Town Center Park is a relaxation day activity. A great time to go there is a hot day. Bring your scooters, bikes, or roller blades and a bathing suit because there are walkways for kids to ride on and a fountain for them to play in. They sometimes even have concerts there. #7: Burt’s Pumpkin Patch
COMMENTS: Burt’s Pumpkin Patch is a great picture place in the Fall- especially in October. You can get your pumpkins there in different colors, shapes, and sizes! There are amazing fried apple pies, popcorn, pumpkin carvers, and more Halloween accessories. There is also a picnic area and a hayride especially for the youngsters. #8: Pirate’s Cove Miniature Golf
COMMENTS: Pirates Cove miniature golf is fun for all ages. It is outdoors and is best to do in the summer on hot days. This is because you can get sprayed by the imaginary cannon balls that splash you when they “hit” the water. There are 27 holes though you can also do only 18 holes.
